The blazing sun has just set over the peaceful ocean and all the colors are imbued with soft blues and gray pinks. The sand is warm and silky. Beautiful lanterns are lit on the beach and the pool by the ocean glows with under-water lights. All around us is a stunning tourist paradise that is easy on the eye but after a few days gets to be ‘high maintenance’, a phrase I am borrowing from my dear friend Katie.
Our 4 days in Thai beach heaven have been colored by a feeling of guilt. When we started the trip we set an intention not to have 365 days of vacation. And here we are letting ourselves be sucked into the comforts and privileges assigned to tourists. We spent our nights in Khao Lak in a clean and very affordable hotel by the main road and our days swimming in the super fancy pool of the all inclusive resort by the beach, sunning on their glorious day beds and lounging in the beach bean bags right by the surf.
It is time to move away from the crowds of pale foreigners though and explore the real Thailand.
We are heading to the national park of Mu Ko Surin islands: 40 km in the Andaman Sea. We will rough it in a tent, cold shower bathrooms and no comforts whatsoever. I am sure Kuba will miss the endless supplies of coffee the hotel provides and the air conditioning. The kids will miss the fat feast hotel breakfast, the crispy white beds and the TV. As for me, I will miss the Wi-Fi connecting me to you but I am ready to explore Thailand and I am craving to go back to what is true to my soul.
Have a great Christmas wherever you are! I hope it is filled with glitter, abundance and sweet time with your loved ones!
Peace and Love from the four of us!
